Clipper47 Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I am considering buying a set of tires with the brand name "Broadway Classics". They are a radial wide whitewall tire and seem to be reasonably priced. Has anyone any experience they would share or advice that they can give me regarding this brand before I spend the money to purchase a set?
Guest Randy Berger Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Dave, I never heard of "Broadway Classics" so have no opinion. I bought BFG WWW radials from Coker and was unsatisfied. Had to fight, here on this forum, to get a replacement, and it is unsatisfactory because I had to buy a tube for it. I've heard good reports about Diamondbacks. I'm going to try them on the next set I buy.
Guest Albert Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Where did you hear about the broadway classics Dave? I have a set of Unaversials on my Patician and have served me well for 3 years now and have about 7000 miles on them. We should see about gett you down to Hershey Pa in October, if we can get you out of that great white north there.. should ou not be thinking of snow tires for TB?
Clipper47 Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 Randy and Albert, A local dealer sells these Broadway Classics and for about 1/3 the price of the WW radials by Canadian Coker dealer in B.C. or Alberta who quoted me $290 each +shipping!! I've heard good things about the Diamondbacks as well and I remember your hassle over the Cokers here and that is what is scaring me about them. A friend of mine who has a 41 Ford bought a set of these B.C.'s for about $110 each and loves them so far but has only driven the car locally for a couple of hundred miles. I would like to get some feedback before I buy them from someone who has had them longer than a couple of months.Albert, I guess I could just slap on a set of old Crappy tire Mud and Snows since it will probably be snowing here in a month and they would be better than what's on the car now but a Packard deserves better. I would love to do Hershey once in my lifetime.
tbirdman Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I've used them on my 64 T-Bird. Unfortunately the size/style I like have been discontinued but I have a source of about 100 of them. The only problem I've had is they had some raised lettering inside the tire. This rubbed the tube and caused them to fail. Grinding away the raised embossing solved that problem. Other than that, I'm happy with them and haven't had a tire failure.
Clipper47 Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 tbirdman, Thanks. Do they require a tube? I've heard/read that a tube isn't required on these Packard wheels but it might be a good idea.
UVT_Mike Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 The Broadway Classic is manufactured as a tubeless tire. No tube is normally required. The white wall width is 1.3". They are American made and I believe they are made in Kentucky at a Kelly/Springfield plant. If you feel the need to use a tube, be certain that you purchase a radial tube to use in them. A bias ply tube will not hold up to the extreme temperatures and flexing that occurs inside a radial tire It will fail well before it should. We have had many happy customers purchase sets of them from us and feel it is a good value for the price.
Guest Randy Berger Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I do not think 1.3 inch qualifies a a Wide White Wall. Three and a half is more like it.
Clipper47 Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 I do not think 1.3 inch qualifies a a Wide White Wall. Three and a half is more like it. I know. I looked the 41 Ford over tonight at Cruise Night and they look OK on a short wheelbase Ford coupe but on a long dark blue Packard they would look very skinny. I may have to rethink this?
tbirdman Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 No they do not require a tube unless your wire wheels leak I use radial tubes.Yes they are not wide whitewalls, but do look appropiate for a 64 Thunderbird.
