56 special exhaust manifold removal

Hey folks.

I have to remove the right side exhaust manifold from the

56 special, still leaking exhaust. I think it may be the

heat riser valve leaking, but not sure. Anyway, the manifold

has to come off. My question is: what do I expect? Are the

bolts typically hard to get off? Will They snap? Should I

use an impact to break them loose? Do I have to replace the

locks that go on the bolts? Should I drill out the heat riser

and put a bolt through it? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Tom, I removed the manifolds from my 56 special and had them sand blasted and coated them with high heat manifold paint about 5 years ago. I didn't have any problems with the bolts, they came out pretty easy, I was surprised! The Nut/stud at the pipe will probably give you the most trouble, If they don't come loose, quickly heat the nut to red hot with an acetetlyn torch and then try again. DON"T USE AN IMPACT, you coukld break them. My heat riser was also leaking but I couldn't find any replacement parts so i re-installed them. The leak is getting worse and rust is coming through again so I will probably do it again this winter and plan on removeing the riser and plugging the holes as I still cannot find parts. I didn't reinstall the "locks" and they never came loose.
