Guest mikewest729 Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I am interested in buying a car in Argentina that a dealer has.Does anyone know of a service, broker or proven trustworthy contact? There must be someone there that has a good track record for handling cars to the US.Please let me know if you know something. Thanks MIKE mwest729@aol.com
1937hd45 Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Based on the cars that I've seen that came from Argentina they will be worn out to the point that you may have body panels that are useable. Get as many photos as you can and know that most repair work on them was done to keep them running with as little cost to the owner.
Mike Cullen Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I have a friend who bought two antique Harleys from Argentina. They were very "tired" but surprisingly complete. Both were restoration projects even though one off them would start with a little work. I don't know how he brokered the deal.
Layden B Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Argentina and some other South American countries have or have had some stiff laws on exporting their " national past". Even though the car was not manufactured there it may be very difficult to get it out of the country. You can purchase it just fine from willing sellers thru willing brokers but just do your homework on the export laws! I have known of several cars that came home "under the wire" because there was no legal way to do it. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Joe Block Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Make sure the car are real, I had a guy trying to sell me Packard Air conditioner for my 42 limo, but he could not come up with pictures, just kept saying it was completes, Oh ya, he was going to including shipping too for $1000, just send a cashier check to him in Brazil. I could not tite him to the Packard Club registery so I drop the deal.I noted last week the site admistrator posted a warning that the guys with want ads should be careful several people were scamming the site.Joe
