Engine Paint 52 Special

I am having the engine from the 52 Special cleaned and inspected. It has not been started for over a decade, frost plugs are rusted just a real mess. The Machine shop is going to clean it and is wanting to paint it, but is only willing to use aerosol. Is there a brand that is available in Canada? According to my limited knowledge the colour is described as "Buick Turgoise". I can find GM corporate Blue and Pontiac Blue but I am afraid it is not close enough. NO show car here just going to be a fun driver. Thanks Steve

Hi Steve,

I doubt if you will be able to find the correct color in your local paint store.

Bob's Automobilia http://www.bobsautomobilia.com will ship out of country.

POR 15 has the correct color, but it only comes in pints & quarts. Will they let you spray it ? If so, buy a cheap gun and go after it. All you need is air. My machine shop lets me do that on a Saturday.

If you end up buying aerosol, by 3 or 4 can, you will need that much for all the little parts. It will take 2 at least to do your block.

Welcome aboard eh!

I agree with what Bill said about spraying. The machine shop that rebuilt my '66 Wildcat engine went through the same thing - we could find the correct colour only in quarts, so eventually they just used a gun to spray it.

Good luck with it. My '52 is in need of a bunch of work as well...maybe someday it will get the treatment it deserves.

www.hirschauto.com

they make most engine colors for most vintage cars. They have aerosol cans also. I've purchased from them for my 53 Pontiac and it looks great.

** they do have Buick Turquoise especially noted for 52 specials in the description. go to paint tab, then engine enamel and the color scroll box will take you where you need to be.

Thanks everyone. The paint is on the way. I am sure I will be needing more help as the easy stuff was taking it apart now the hard stuff will be remembering how to but everything back together.

Thanks Again

Steve
