1939 Buick Special - Rear Shock Upgrade?

Hello,

I want to upgrade my rear shocks and use modern technology. The best way I can see to do that is to put them inside the coil springs. Has anyone ever done this? It doesn't look that difficult if I can find a shock with shouldered stems on top and bottom. I searched previous posts and couldn't find anything about anyone doing this. If anyone out there has done this, please advise what type of shocks you used - this way I wouldn't have to search 13 gazillion shocks to find which would work the best.
