Guest 70 Electra Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Hi, I'm from the Buick side of this forum, but wanted to bring this tidbit to your attention....Did anyone see the 1966 Toronado that was offered at the RM Auction at the Meadowbrook Concours d'Elegance? (Sat 8/5/06) It was sold (SOLD, not "bid to") for over $40K.I viewed the car in person, and it was indeed very sharp: that beautiful black cherry color with the matching deluxe interior. Underhood was incorrectly detailed with dreadfully glossy black paint and other inaccuracies. I must admit I was stunned by the price. Maybe early Toros are finally getting their due?Unfortunately, once RM posts the auction results, the car's pictures are no longer available. (Unlike Kruse, for example)
Guest BJM Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Greg,Probably a lot of money there to throw around. If it were a more blue collar crowd, the price would not have been that high, IMO. You can get low mileage Toronados for $10,000 to $15,000, which is still an improvement over the past 10 years, when these cars really tanked. I had a 66 Dubonnet car, inside and out with deluxe interior. Oldsmobile purposely came out with that color for the 66 Toronado. I restored it (extremely complex). Toronados look much better restored, like new then they do with incorrect paint or in need of restoration. Many people have only seen them in less then show condition. And as you mention, color is important. Lighter shades draw less attention. These behemoths look best in deep, rich shades.
