Went to a local cruise Fri. nite and returned home with no problems, when I opened the garage door Sat. afternoon to get ready for the local Drive-in cruise I discovered a huge puddle of antifreeze under the front of car! AAARGH!!! WATER PUMP!!! I called my local parts supplier and they said "no problem, we will have you one here monday afternoon for 40 bucks!" I went to get it today and they said "sorry none available but we can have yours rebuilt for the same price." The rebuilder is in Marshfield, Mo. any one ever had work done by them? This is the FIRST time she let me down, I'm just glad she did it in private and not in front of everyone!!!!!!!

Bummer! Water pumps are the achilles heel of the Buick in my opinion. I would try some other suppliers before having yours rebuilt. I know a lot of people have trashed CARS Inc. but I bet they have a new one. Also Kanters may be of help.

If you decide to have yours rebuilt, I'd be cautious of the rebuilder grinding down the vanes on the impeller. This has been discussed before. In some instances they are ground down ( I don't know why) to such a degree that the engine will run hotter or overheat where it didn't before.

Anyway, good luck.

Ya know she really didn't let ya down. What better place to have a car crap out than in the garage. When you are in "tin buck two" and have no choice but to call a tow, then she has let ya down. I have been very lucky, last incident was when the starter took a dump, just as I was getting ready to drive her 300 miles north. One more start and the first gas station stop would have done it. Just another way of looking at it. Good luck, I have used Cars, had a minor problem but nothing major.

I too had a water pump let go at the end of last season.

After being out all day and pretty far away I decided to head home. It blew antifreeze all over the garage floor when pulling in. I gave it a big kiss for getting me home rather then stranded alongside a interstate or out in the middle of the no where.

I know that feeling. I was out in the 47 and about a block from home the rear axle outer bearing race, let go. Gotta love a car that chooses to let you get home, before it decides it requires a repair job.

Last June going to the BDE national in Sedonna AZ in our 73 Electra the water pump went out at the east gate to the Grand Canyon National Park. Thanks to some wonderful people we got a ride to Flagstaff rented a car and drove to Sedonna for the night then back to Flagstaff the next day and to the park replaced the pump and were back at Sedonna that afternoon for the fun. I had the old pump completely removed from the car within an hour of it going out but it was Sunday and we couldn't get a replacement. I was so sun burnt when we got to the hotel that first night I glowed red.
