Guest trofeo73
Has anybody installed the prom chip from an after market manufacturer such as Fastchip.com? What are some of your views on it. I would like first hand accounts to see if its worth the money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Richard S
You definately want to email Hal on this issue before you buy. He has an immense reservior of knowledge, has the chip in his car, and has a good deal of practical experience with it that he was willing to share with me. Guest
In stock form I found the chip to be a little flat around town, but it does help the upper end. I have been running a 160 deg. thermostat so I believe the engine wanted more timing to compensate. You might want to ask Ed Wright at Fastchips for the program he put in my chip, which also has the fan code changed to bring them in sooner to go with the low temperature thermostat. Mine is a summer only car and the combination works quite well, but expect to lose a few percent of mpg. I also use 93 octane fuel exclusively and the standard settings are designed for 91 octane. Guest trofeo73
Thanks Hal, It wouldn't hurt to have a better top end powerband. I am going to ask the techs at fastchip to see if they can build a program to make it more responsive on the low end.
