Guest imported_bcboy Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 After looking at my 89 with no brakes and reading the posts from fellow members I am still trying to save my 89. As previously stated it appears the abs system is the problem and I have read past history of brake problems with the TC. I know it can be fixed/replaced but my issue is where and who. I tried talking to a local Chrysler dealer and was not at all comfortable with their knowledge of the Tc. Unfortunately I know nothing about cars myself so I really feel that I would be at the financial mercy of any repairman I go to and cannot afford experimentation ( 2 in college). Can anyone recommend a reputable repair place in my area ( Boston ) that could at least give me a knowledgeable answer as to whether this is worth persuing <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />??? I appreciate any help you can give me.
Guest Anthenium Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Hi BC,Just a thought, but are you a member of TC America? I just joined, and when I talked to Karleen about my "Issues", none of them as serious as yours, she put me in contact with a Resident Expert, Larry Carlson.***************You might want to contact Larry Carlson at: info@TCParts.com he will be able to help you locate the parts you need. He is honest as anyone I have ever known. What he tells you will be 'fact'....***************I'm not sure he'd be the right guy to help you, but I'll bet TC America could get you pointed in the right direction. Here ends my Shamelss Plug for my New Club.
anirishpub Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 I understand how difficult finding a repair shop for a car you can't drive, I had exactly the same problem. To solve it I went to craig's list, under services there's a listing for Automotive and searching the listings found several mobile mechanics. After talking to several of them about replacing my Treves ABS system and having a couple come to the house and giving estimates I lucked out and found an excellent mechanic with very reasonable rates, much cheaper than repair shops. I've used him several times since to help with my upgrade project. You might try the same thing but suggest you shop around. Talk to several and be picky to find the right one. It's really cool having a good mechanic that comes to you instead of being at the mercy of repair shops, I insist my guy give me a quote for doing the work before it's started, it's saved me a ton of money. There is a craigs list for the Boston area here's the link, good luck.http://boston.craigslist.org/
Guest Jeffn Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Can you find someone that works on Reattas? A buick place? They have the Teves sytem also...
Willhelm Reichert Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 HMMMMMMM......So if I have problems, I can borrow parts off the Reatta in my neighbor's garage???
TwinCamFan Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Don's post (Irishpub) is an excellent idea for your brakes. Parts from Larry at TCParts and a competant mobile mechanic should have the brakes working again in less than four hours. A little more if your rotors and pads need some atttention too.Alan
