26Willys Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I am restoring a 26 Whippet and I have gotten to the piont where I am starting to think about paint. I have searched previous postings about paint and decided that lacquer would be the easiest to use and the most original. I still have a few questions though. Does anyone know a paint code for the blue used on the lower half of the car?Although I have some experience with painting cars, I have never used lacquer. What type of primer should be used with lacquer? Should the lacquer be thinned? What is the best type of lacquer? Thanks
mrpushbutton Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Use epoxy primer. Read the safety instructions and follow to the letter, catalized paints have known health risks if you do not have and use the proper respirator mask. I like acrylic laquer, I have been around cars restored 25 years ago that were painted with Deltron, and they still look fine today. Use Laquer thinner to thin. As for the proper color/shade/hue, I would contact either the AACA library or the NAHC in Detroit. You may not be able to work from a code (the old codes have been superceded), but have a chip matched.
