Bosch NU4 Magneto

What type of car or engine was this used for?

How did it work? I am familiar with magnetos, and DU4's, but this is different. I thought I would ask, rather than take it apart.

Are you sure the base reads NU4, this does not look like an NU4 but rather a 2 cylinder mag?

Three pictures from Bosch NU4 manual. Standard model is a 4 cylinder. I suspect your magneto is a special, the ED (edition or special customer modifications) points at that. Am guessing 2 cylinder opposed slow r.p.m.
