300 Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Hey everyone, I just bought a 1980 Dodge Aspen Wagon with Slant-6 and auto. I also just got a 440 to replace the Slant-6. Anyone here ever done a swap like this before? I know there are motor mount conversion kits made for swaps like this, but I need to know how tight the fit would be? Will I have to sacrifice power steering? How hard would it be to put in a 4-speed? What about a 727? I'm not sure exactly where to start so any help/advice or pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated. The Aspen is in very good shape and gets some looks with the aluminum mags and fat tires out back. However, it has no "go". It would be great to breathe some new life into this car. Thanks in advance.
mrpushbutton Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 you are going to need stronger torsion bars in the front--are stronger rate torsion bars available? What is the weight difference between a 440 and a hot 318? I know some of those Aspens came with 318's. look at U-joints and rear springs too. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. A 727 would bolt right up, and be the prefered set-up.
