rocketraider Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 All I've ever seen were a medium gloss black. About 60% gloss. Krylon Satin Black spray bomb is a near dead match for it without going thru the expense and trouble of mixing and spraying paint. Some GM dealers still keep "GM Reconditioning Black" paint on the shelf if they have a big used car operation or body shop.I'm told the factory didn't spray parts like this. They filled a vat with water, then floated a layer of cheap black paint on the water. Parts were loaded on a rack and the whole shebang was dipped into the vat. Paint stuck to the parts when they were withdrawn thru the layer of paint- which explains the runs, bubbles, fisheyes etc that these parts always have. You gotta remember the factory was interested in getting the cars out the door and sold and painted chassis parts only to prevent rusting before the cars were delivered.
