hilgretasmom1 Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I am having difficulty finding a product to make the top of a tar top battery look presentable. Is there something that can be sprayed on that will produce an even black finish without softening the tar?
Guest De Soto Frank Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 How about undercoating spray? You might also try Kiwi black shoe polish (paste-type) and a dauber-brush...
real61ss Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 You may or may not want to do this but here's my way of freshning a tar top. Using a heat gun (not anything that produces a spark or flame), I heat the tar until it starts to melt. Using the heat gun, you can make the tar flow and it will leave the battery looking just like new. This will only work if you have one of the repo batteries that actually has tar, most of the "tar top" batteries that are being made now actually have plastic tops. I saw your post earlier but I was hestitate to post this because it sounds dangerous but I've done it several times some years ago. The last two "tar tops" that I've purchased had the plastic tops so I no longer have this problem.
