jonosso Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Most of us have seen this car somewhere in the past at either a show, in a book, or on eBay. I stumbled upon this website with it (apparently) for sale yet again. http://www.vaultcars.com/36BuickTowncar/36buickTC.htm
Centurion Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 jonnyopa, thanks for the link to the great photos. I had seen photos of a similar 1937 model, and had heard of this 1936 -- owned at some point by BCA member Gary Offstein, I believe -- but had never seen such excellent photos of this car.
Fred Rawling Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 They list this as an 80 series. I thought Gary's car was on a Special chasis.
Centurion Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Fred, you may very well be correct. I assumed that this was probably Gary's car, but it may be a completely different vehicle. At the time that my copy of "Seventy Years of Buick" was printed, there was only a drawing of a '36 Buick Brewster Town Car, and the caption indicated that it was doubtful that any had actually been built. When I learned of Gary's car, I thought it was a very significant find -- and never imagined that more than one had been constructed.
FireballV8 Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 GuysThis was Gary's car, he just sold it to another BCA member in SO CAL, its a neat car and I am glad it stayed in the BCA.
Guest COMPACTBC Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 If this is Gary's car, it was purchased by a long time member of BCA and the Orange County Chapter of BCA. I have a feeling he will bring the car to our all Buick Car Show in Tustin on Sunday October 1st. The show will be at Enderle Center where it has been held for the last 2 years. We are planning on having a special display of Station Wagons this year (incl. '53 Roadmaster, the last wooden body [only 670 made] and a '96 Roadmaster Estate Wagon,(the last metal body wagon)as well as an all original '49 Riviera Roadmaster (the 1st use of the Riviera name), a '63 Riviera (the 1st real Riviera)and the last Riviera (1999 "Silver Arrow" model, one of 200 made).
Guest BCA1431 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 To end all of the speculation. Yes, the Brewster was sold to an OCBCA member. It is on an 80 series chassis. After 30 years of Brewster and other Buick ownership, and around 37 + years in the BCA my priorities have changed. Traveling with wife, taking up golf, etc. etc. Gary
Guest COMPACTBC Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I recently talked to the BCA member who bought Gary's car and the car featured in this post is Gary's car.
