autobilia Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I have what appears to be a tin stamped item, about 2 3/4" tall, with a globe on top being held by a winged female figure and the words "Glidden Trophy" stamped on the base. It's in great shape. I've attached a digital pic of it. Basically, I'm trying to find out what it is (I assume a tiny souvenir of the actual Glidden Trophy). What year it was made, where someone might have acquired it, who made the item, did people buy them or were they awarded, potential collectable value, etc... It's a very interesting well-made item but I have no idea what it might be. Thanks in advance for your help! Best regards - Jim
1937hd45 Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 If it is tin my guess is that it was part of a name tag worn by someone the tour, either the original Glidden or one of the revivals with Antique cars after WWII. Nice item, welcone to the Forum. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
TG57Roadmaster Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I've been hunting this post since I put up pix of the Glidden Trophy two days ago.If you'll notice atop the globe on your pendant, there sits a tiny 1901 Napier auto. Go to the AACA Photo Gallery and key in: The Charles J. Glidden Touring Trophy. You'll see the real thing as it exists today, minus the little car on top.Methinks you have a little treasure on your hands. If it was mine, I'd never part with it!TG
aacalifeer Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Does this has a clasp pin back? If so I recall these were in the Tour Packets of the 1969 Glidden Tour in Gatlinburg TN. My parents attended and both have one. I found one at a swap meet a few years ago, had to pay $25.00. Don't know if it was worth it or not. I was satisfied to find one for my collection. That dealer also attended the same Glidden Tour. It is a real conversation piece at AACA events. Enjoy!!
