Hey Ya'll...Just wanted to take a sec and say hi. I just got my first buick yesterday. She's a 1947 something. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I can decode the body number, and tell me just what 1947 I have. Is it a super, road master..or what? Also, what are some good companies for reproduction parts. I'm gona need rockers, floors, and a trunk floor. Any help would be great. I know I'll be posting a lot later. Till then, have a good one.

Welcome aboard 47,

47 eh? One of my favorites. I like all series of the 42 through 48's. Why don't you post the info from the data plate and we can let you know what you got. Hopefully you will join the BCA. It is a great club and has a very nice and informative monthly magazine. Check out the Me and My Buick forum and consider posting some pictures and telling us about yourself and the car.

So where at in da south air ya from. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

and in the meantime here is a link to a very comprehensive listing of Buick parts dealers that is maintained by a regular on this Forum, Adam Smartin Martin

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I'm 23 years old, and live near Raleigh, NC. Although this is my first Buick, I'm no stranger to what it's gona take to get her back like she should be. I have a 78 F100, and a 61 Chevy stepside that I have redone from the ground up. As far as the Vin tag goes, it reads:

[color:"blue"]

1947 Mod: 47-71

Style No: 47-4769

Body No: BL 5386

Trim No: 92

Paint No: 01

Any help with this info would be really appreciated. I was told this was a super form the owner, but I found a emblem in the back seat the fits in the grill good that says Road Master. So who knows??? Thanks again for the help guys. Have a good one! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> [color:"blue"]

Raliegh eh, there's some good Buick folks up that way. Watch out for one named Martel though, he'll try and buy it off of ya. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'm not real familiar with the 40's codes but that # 7 stands for Roadmaster. and I think maybe it's a 4 door sedan??? Will dig more when I get home and tell you more.

1947 Mod: 47-71......it is indeed a Roadmaster 4-Door sedan

Style No: 47-4769.... this is just the Fisher Body Style no.

Body No: BL 5386..... Not sure but I think the BL signifies it was built in Linden, New Jersey??

Trim No: 92.......... Gray Bedford Heather cloth interior

Paint No: 01......... Black

Hope this helps <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks...That is exactly what I needed. Since the owner told me that it was a super or a special he wasn't sure...I'm glad that it's a roadmaster....it just sounds cooler...haha. I'll try and post some pics over the next few days. She's rough, but as you know, people with our debilitating disease of automotive restoration even the smallest chrome lug nut on a pile of rust has the greatest potential of all... HAHA.

Hey 1947 Newbie,

We've had our black four door Roadmaster for about 6 months now. We own three real nice model A's, but this big beautiful road hog is the most fun. I'm sure you will enjoy yours.

Lots of good information on care and feeding in this forum. These guys know their stuff.

Dear 47Newbie:

There are two more numbers on your car that are of some significance that you haven't mentioned.

One is called the "Frame Number" and that tag is located on top of the frame rail right behind the battery. If the first digit is 1, the car was built at Flint. If it's 2, Southgate, California. If it's 3, Linden, New Jersey. If it's 4, Kansas City. The balance of the number should be between 4524131 and 5020983. Most states use this number for the car title.

The second is the "Engine Number", which is stamped on the side of the engine. Range of these numbers for 1947 started at 4737740 and ended at 4999881. Other states used this motor number for the car title.

I hope this helps.

Regards, Dave Corbin
