Cadillac White Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Hey all,I am turning the fate of my reatta to the intellegence of this board once again. I got a warning that I had an electrical prolem. After checking the diagnostics I got the code E041.The problem, the book says, is possibly the connections at the ECM. I have checked everything else and it's all fine. Anyway, the question is, How do I pull the wire harnesses out of the ECM to remove it. I want to try to clean the connections and see if that fixes it. I got under the dash and pulled that all apart and arrived at the ECM. I know to remove it I take out that one Torx screw and it slides out, but I have to remove the wire harnesses. I tried a little, but I felt like I was going to break some wires so I thought I would ask how those harnesses work. Thanks in advance.jorge.
javy1989 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 JUST TO LET YOU KNOW THAT E-CODE IS FOR THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, YOU MAY NOT EVEN HAVE TO BE DOWN, ANS JUST REPLACE THE SENSOR

Cadillac White Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 You guys are great. Thanks alot. I wasn't looking forward to hanging upside down in the passenger seat to work on that ECM.Thanks again!
Guest imported_dantm4 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Could be wrong but I thought that code meant electrically "missing" when the engine runs? If the code is continuous it's probably the magnet, but couldn't it also be just be a bad plug wire or a bad coil pack? Just thought I'd be the voice of dissent in case it saves you time and headaches. -Dan 90' Black/Tan Coupe
Guest F14CRAZY Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 The code 41 isn't a bad code. The motor will run at about 80% power, but shouldn't be as bad as "missing"
Cadillac White Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 Well, I replaced the Cam Sensor. It wasn't the problem. Looks like it is the ECm itslef. According to the wonderful manual I have, if I am getting over 6 volts at the 1C5 pin in the number 1 harness that goes into the ECM, everything before that point is ok. It is either a bad connection or a faulty ECM. I cleaned the connection and I still get the code. Anyone know where I can find a new ECM and /or how much they cost?
Guest F14CRAZY Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Have you replaced the camshaft interruptor magnet?
Guest DTerry Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Actually, you probably can't tell the difference with the cam sensor inop. Mine was dead for over a year with no noticeable degradation in performance or economy. Still got over 30 mpg (as high as 33 sometimes) average freeway cruising.
