The PCV Valve is underneath the plastic cover on top of the engine. Standing on the passenger side, looking at the engine, it is in the left front corner of the intake manifold. (Firewall side)

I didn't find it specifically, but my '90 manual shows two views of the intake manifold, section 6A8-8, figure 15 and 16. That 90 degree shaped thing at the lower rear corner of the passengers side of the intake manifold is the PCV valve. It is hidden by all of the stuff you describe. The rear spark plug cables and a couple of engine harnesses run right over top of it. They do have a history of the grommets getting hard and cracking, causing a large vacuum leak.

Hal,

If it is the thingie I am looking at (next to item # 3 and item # 7), I guess it is necessary to remove the alternator so that the wiring harnesses can be lifted out of the way to get at the bugger <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />.
