busaf4
Can a leaking water pump be repaired without removal. I have the parts and mechanics manual but they do not have an exploded view of how everything goes together.Does anyone know how to get a Dodge part #6113 headlight socket wire with terminal. A phot of my reflector is attached. This is a 12 volt generator/starter vehicleThank You Art
Guest leadfoot
Not trying to be smart alek here, but almost everything I've ever worked on in a DB seems to go back together in the reverse order that it came apart. And you have your own exploded view device - the digital camera, which can record much more detail than one or two drawings in a book.
pepstrebeck
Where exactly is the waterpump leaking from?
Jan Arnett
You can replace the water pump packing around the shaft without removing the water pump. Back off the nut and remove the old packing. New packing is install in the same direction as the old packing. Think of the water pump shaft as a water facet shaft on an old water facet and you repair the packing the same way. You can get packing at any old hardware store and even some lowes carries it. It is the twine type packing inpregnated with graphite. If the shaft is scored nothing you will do will stop it from leaking except taking it apart and replacing the shaft. Send me an email and I will send you pictures on how to do it.jan <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
Jim Anselmo
I just picked up teflon packing at my (gasp...) local Model A supply store. Is this better then the graphite version?
Jan Arnett
I find that when the shaft has scoring the graphite is better. Whe you have a new shaft the teflon is smoother. The real key is make sure you use water proof grease. I alway put a little on the packing before tightening it and don't over tighten. Do it in steps.
