Guest my3buicks Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 I had a buyer from Germany asking some questions on my Centurion, I told him for payment I would prefer having funds wired directly into my account, this was his latest question/response. What's anyones opinion? Scam? ThanksHallo my3buicks, thank you for your information. I found a car-shipper who is located in Cleveland. He would make the comlete deal for me: hand out the money to you and send the car to Germany. He can pick up the car at your home, but it would be easier, if you could drive the car to him (~130 miles)- would that be possible for you - I would pay 300$ for this service ?? And a question to the car: is the bottom o.k. - without strong rust? I hope you have time enough to send me an answer before the auction ends. Thanks for it before! Have a nice day - Rolf
Guest BJM Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Keith,I thought you had your convert on ebay? This sounds like a deal on the side and there is NO WAY I would do that. Having said that, I sold my 64 Wildcat convertible on ebay to a buyer from Sweden who flew over, drove to Iowa, loaded the car up and took it to L.A. for transport back to Sweden.
Pete Phillips Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Keith,It sounds legitmate to me. You always have the option of turning around, not releasing the car, and driving the car back home, if anything you are handed in Cleveland is not up to snuff. I recently sold a car to a fellow in England. He sent me a money order, I deposited it, it cleared the bank, and then he asked me to deliver the car to Houston where it would be shipped. I agreed to do so, plus deliver the parts car which he also bought, for a cost of $300 per car (Houston is 300 miles from here). Since the main transaction went smoothly, I trusted him for the additional $600, and delivered the cars to Houston. I'm still waiting for my delivery expense reimbursement, which is obviously not coming now (3 months later). So, get your delivery money in hand before you release the car, is the moral to my story.Pete Phillips
Guest my3buicks Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 no, this is a possible ebay buyer that would bid on the car - the car has met reserve, so it wont be pulled off at this point.
Guffin Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Many times I have read at this forum, don't give out your bank account number. There is no risk in leaving out your bank account number. If somebody illegally manage to draw money from your account the bank is responsible and have to reinforce you. Most transactions here in Europe are made by direct transfer to a bank account. This is the cheapest way of sending money. I paid both of my Buicks from the USA this way.If you get a check and the bank knows you, you can get the money before they check if the check is valid. If they later find out that the check is fake, they want their money back. It may take up to three weeks for the bank to get a foreign check cleared. So getting the money for a check doesn't necessary mean that the check is OK.Sending money to your bank account is fast, and when the money is on your account you can be safe.Jan
Guest my3buicks Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 thanks for your quick responses - my gut instinct was telling me the Wire way was the way to go, and I had mentioned that to him earlier - I ahve sent him an email telling him that I would only be accept payment by wire transfer. Thanks
