This motor, or part of one, was passed on to me by my father and I'm trying to find out what it is and if it could possibly yield any value. It looks rough because I don't want to clean it in fear of ruining anything/exposing the metal. Thanks in advance for the help guys, Harlan

This does look like Hispano, but I think it is automotive. It is probably European anyway. The H series Hispanos suffer from problems with the blocks as they are alloy and antifreeze solutions weren't formulated to be compatible with them among other things. I would guess that this is no longer in a car for a good reason. There is a group of Hispano owners who got together a couple years ago to cast some new blocks since so many originals were bad. I can perhaps help you to positively id this. Do you have any other photos? Dave Mitchell packard12s@hotmail.com

I agree that this must be a Hisso auto engine. The following websit is filled with photos and information on race cars equiped with Hisso V8 Aero engines. http://winfield.50megs.com/Hisso.htm They were dirt cheap WWI surplus in the 1920's. Some ran as V8's others ran as fours with one block removed, some ran with custom cast crankcases and a single bank of cylinders.

I did a little research myself today now that I know what it MIGHT be and somewhere along the lines I ran across this picture of a Hispano 12Y and I think the resemblence is pretty striking...

It does make sense that the reason mine might be by itself is due to a flaw but there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it and my father always got rid of bad parts even if it was original to a bentley or rolls royce. Here's more pics to help out further.......

I'm lacking knowledge here I don't get the meaning of this solid gasket which blocked what I guess is the intake or exhaust ports but as you can see they are cut too perfect to simply have been made to block crap from getting inside. You can see 6 of them in the last pic and I pulled off the one's that are punctured to be replaced <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
