Guest 1956Packard Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 I'm looking for a second opinion here. I am of two schools of thought but I won't prejudice anyone's coments. I have a set of Packard faux wire wheel covers which I understand are for the Clipper line (but may also be for the seniors???). I have been asked to provide a price to sell them. Anyone have any experience with these (value wise) - they are not terribly common I guess.Last set I saw was very high but I have a hard time quoting that price.Thx. Geoff
Guest Randy Berger Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Geoff, you can only sell them once. If you price them too low a speculator will buy them and make money you should have gotten. Ebay may be the place to sell them. I thought they were for Clippers but don't see why they wouldn't fit senior wheels.
mrpushbutton Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Geoff--do they have the red hex snap-in center?
Guest 1956Packard Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 They are very similar to other makes of that time (ie Ford) - wire covers over top of the dog dish caps. I am not familiar with the hex centre - never seen that. The hex emblem of the dog dish caps would, I suppose, stand proud of the wire caps. I have never seen any on a car, so I don't know quite how they would work. The fact that they are similar to other makes is the reason I have an issue asking the previous price I saw on e-bay (about $900 US) Bear in mind I don't have a lot into these things - I'm not out to retire from them.
Guest imported_Packards1 Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Geoff, there are wire wheel covers for the senior series cars. They have a snap on center hubcap that looks similar to the real wire wheel hubcap. The 56 accessory book shows a "wire wheel" cap for the Clipper line. It has an outer "beauty ring". How about posting a photo of what you have. eBay or the national Packard meet in 15 days would be the place to sell them.
Guest imported_Packards1 Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 The outside ring looks like the artists rendering in the accessory manual. The cap is a 55-56 Clipper standard hubcap. It does not appear to be able to be snapped onto the outer ring.
Guest 1956Packard Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 I am 99% sure they are Packard rings as I also have an NOS (in box) accessory chrome ring without the wire and inner rings. It matches the wire covers. Some very nice vendor sold me that.As for how they mount, I have no clue. I do have some of the mounting clips, but for the life of me can't figue it out. I am only guessing that they go over top of the 'dog dishes' similar to other makes - but I'm not sure. Again, I am only going on what I have seen in very far and few between pictures. I have no clue how they go.As for value, I am even less sure.
