Mr Buick Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 I have never been to a BCA National meet. I am taking our 65 Skylark GS, and I am wondering, do I have it judged in the 400 point class, or the Driver class? Can anyone shed some light on this? My car is not perfect, but it is in nice shape. Some pictures for you to "judge" and let me know your thoughts. Thanks for your help.JohnP.S. The interior is original.
Pete Phillips Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 There was an article in the April issue of the Bugle, page 16-17, for first-timers, that tells you everything you need to know about the different types of judging.Pete Phillips, BCA #7338
Centurion Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 John, the car looks very nice! Thanks for sharing the photos. It would not hurt to enter the car for the 400-point judging. Although you might not win a "Senior" award the first time out, you can obtain a copy of the judging records for your car, providing you with the information you need to take the car to next level. We'll be eager to hear all about your experience at the National.
Guest my3buicks Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 John, get it judged!!! AS Brian said, you may not take home Gold or a Senior the first thime out, you will get the judging form if you request it and get some idea's to improve on it. Very nice car!!
serb Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 There is absolutely no question, YOU GET IT JUDGED! You put it into the 400 point judging and see how it stands up. If nothing else, you get a panel of judges to look at it and evaluate your car instead of a couple of guys in your backyard or down on the corner at a cruise. You will then know pretty much what you want to tackle next depending on finances or whatever. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and be even more proud of your ride after you get the results.Stevo
Guest brh Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Get it judged!!!!! The car is beautiful!! Have it judged and don't set your expectations too high, you will probably be pleasantly surprised. What a great looking 65 G.S.!!!!
Mr Buick Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 Thanks for all your comments guys, I will have it judged in the 400 point system per your recommendations. Should I leave the mags on it, or put on a set of steel wheels with white walls and a beautiful set of 65 Spinners I have? That would make it more original and I would not be deducted for the black inside the mag wheels, (when it should be gray/silver)?Again, Thanks for the comments! We will see you there!John
Guest brh Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I thought when the 65 G.S. came out the mags were an option? I could be dead wrong as all my info goes to 65 Skylarks, but all the G.S. ones I have seen have the mags. I say leave the mags on.
Guest Tom Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 John,I too would get it judged, and while you're at it, make sure you sign up to be a judge yourself. No experience required and we need all the judges we can get at Rochester. There is a judges training meeting that will tell you what you need to know. As far as the wheels are concerned. The more original the tires and wheels, the better off you'll be in judging. For example, radial tires on a car that should have bias ply's and where radials were not availabe as an option is an automatic deduction. I don't know if the mags were optional on Skylarks in '65 or not, but the new car literature for '65 should probably tell you that.By the way you need to send your registration in as soon as possible as the cutoff date to have your car judged is June 15th. Registrations must be postmarked by that date.
Mr Riviera Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I think the above advice is right on target ! I do want to stress the fact that we need more Judges - step up and sign up - its a lot of work and a lot of fun !On top of all that fun stuff you get a free meal ! On a more serious note, The best way to learn is to participate! CU there !
Glassesguy Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Mags should be ok. Replace the aftermarket radiator cap and fuel filter with AC's. Check with Bob's Automobilia or Year One as suppliers for the correct hose clamps and date coded spark plug wires. The GS guys(and gals) really know stuff on these cars. Definitely get it judged and volunteer to be a judge if you're really, really serious on correctness. Look at the BCA Judging Manual on line for lots of help.Nice car!
Guest my3buicks Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 John, the 65 & 66 Chrome wheels had the pockets painted argent silver, not black as you stated - this WOULD be a deduction. Also John, if your wheels are off a newer Buick(which they appear to be) then the offset is incorrect and you can expect a full deduction for wrong wheels. You may want to play it safe and run the steel wheels and covers(that's how most of them came from the factory anyway).
Mr Buick Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 OK I am registered for the 400 point judging. Do they park the cars in classes or do you just park wherever when you get to the show?John
Bill Stoneberg Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 They park the cars in classes. You will be grouped with other cars such as yours so they can all be jusged at one time.I hope you are going to go through judging school and help judge cars. Its fun and you will learn a lot.
