Guest CL_Reatta Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Hi again, I am planning on replacing or repairing my stereo, I have it almost out except for the coax cable, after having many bad experiences with just pulling on wires to see if they come out in the past I figured I would try here, how does the coax unplug from the stereo, also any suggestions on if I should just get the stereo replaced, or have it fixed and put a CD changer in the trunk. Thanks
Guest F14CRAZY Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Fidelity from the original Delco isn't that great compared with modern, quality head units. And, with a changer with it, you'd have to use a modulator, losing more quality. However, I would suggest getting a 1.5 DIN unit like from Pioneer (which we've used). No dumb adapter kits
Guest CL_Reatta Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 ok, thanks, but do you know the max watts that the original speakers can take, because my friend across the street put a new stereo in his explorer but did'nt change the speakers and blew a speaker or something like that (I'm very technology illiterate lol) and then he decided to just re-do his complete stereo system which you can now hear him coming from a mile away
Guest F14CRAZY Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Your stock speakers, I'm willing to bet, are blown already. Well, the fronts are. The '90+ coupes with the 6x9 rears tend to outlast the fronts, which are 5.25s. Go ahead and replace them all. On ebay for the Maui convertible we had I was able to get 4 brand new Kenwoods for like $80. Audio will be much, much better. Do leave the factory tweeters in and conencted though, for its said they sound better that way and the tweeters don't seem to deteriorate like the rest do.
Guest CL_Reatta Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 oh boy just put my door panels back on the other day to! lol but I guess I might as well replace the speakers soon before I start remebering the fun I went through with the door panels. Thanks for your help
Guest inthespot Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 F14 my fronts ar blown and I have been looking at polk 502a's I think for the front and I have some Polk 6x9's for the rear but I thought that the rears were a smaller size. Will 6x9's fit? and also do you think that the stock tweeters are good enough or should they be replaced also? Thanks
Guest inthespot Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 So where did the "e" in the word are go must have left it on the keyboard huh.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 All Reattas use 5.25s in the front. The rears for '88-89 coupes are 6.5s. '90-91 coupes are 6x9s, which I think I will eventually get the brackets for cuz they can produce much better bass than the round, smaller 6.5s. Convertibles use those goofy 4x10s in the rear.I haven't used Polks before but they seem to be on the higher-end.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 My bad. I'd leave the stock tweeters except if you're using composite speakers that have their own separate tweeter. I'd replace them then. But if you're using a 2, 3, or 4 way speaker, I'd leave the tweeter.
