Guest Rob1960 Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Can someone offer any suggestions about how to attach the side mirror, shown in attached photo? My car is a 1936 Dodge. I intended to cup the ' U ' shaped clip over the edge of the door, and then tighten the screws with an allen wrench. I wanted the mirrors located just outside the front bottom portion of the front windows.... similar to where they're usually mounted on a modern car. But when I got the first one on, it wouldn't allow the door to close. There is almost zero clearance between the door edge and the car's frame, when the door is closed. Thanks for any suggestions.Robt

dave38fastback Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I had the exact same problem. Solution is to hand cut a rubber pad for the stem of the mirror to sit on (on the outside of the car) this will protect your paint AND moves the threaded bracket outward. Then you start grinding the grub screws down so that when wound in tight they are flush with the outer surface of the bracket. You may have to mount the mirror shightly higher on the door than you want because I suspect the gap gets smaller the closer you get to the hinge.
