Can someone tell me where in the service manual are the directions for replacing the cam sensor and what tools I would need? Since the index goes by sections I am not sure what section the sensor would fall into, so I cannot find it. Plus any recomendations on where I should get the part from?

just did, after reading that i hope it is just the cam sensor and not the magnet. and even that looks like it is going to be hard. this is the first car i have owned that i want to learn how it works and do my own repairs, all my other ones i have just taken to my mechanic. but i am tired of puttimg my mecahnics kids through college

You could try the cam sensor itself, but when I tried it, it still didn't fix it and it was the magnet

It is really not as hard as it sounds. Just take your time! It helps to have a mechanics mirror (small one in metal case with telescoping handle---most parts stores have them). I did one about a year ago and it worked fine. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The cam sensor is not difficult to replace, just a little hard to reach. One bolt removes it, check the harness for trouble forward of the sensor, near the alt/coil bracket, and seat the new sensor flush before tightening the mounting bolt.

If the E041 code re-appears, first clear the ECM codes thru the ECC, then re-test. If codes do not go away, it could be iether the cam magnet, crank sensor, or the ECM. All three of these can set-off an E041 code.

I put my eldest daughter thru UWMadison on the money I've saved fixing my own cars (23)!!!!!

I'll add ignition module to the list of components that contribute to a 41. I replaced my cam sensor(magnet was good) and still got the intermittent 41. A replacement ignition module fixed it.
