JohnD1956 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Went to put the 69's top up at a parade today and ...nothing... Opened the trunk to find a river of top fluid ( dextron trans fluid) in the trunk. Pulled the motor and found the seal bulging out between the motor and reservoir.Any idea what could have blown out that seal? Age? back pressure? The manual says the pump should work between 340 to 380 PSI, so if there was a blockage you woul dhave thought one of the plastic lines would have popped. But they seem to be okay. I got this car in 2003 and the top motor had to be replaced before that but I have no idea how old it is. When it worked it worked fine. Any ideas?JD
Reatta Man Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 It certainly sounds like a dried-out seal, or a defective one. Can you rebuild it yourself, or do you have to replace the entire pump (motor) assembly?Joe
JohnD1956 Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 The pump looks extremely simple in the 69 Manual. I have a seal kit coming from Hydro electric. I'll be giving it a try soon. I think my original seal just shrunk or something... When I took the reservoir off and tried to re install the seal, the reservoir could spin around pretty easy. Also the seal looked like it was dry rotted? It was never out of fluid to the best of my knowledge so I don't know how that could have happened. Anyway, hydro electric staff said it should not spin at all when together. I hope I can get this going. It's embarassing to have to stand on the seat to raise the top.JD
