The overdrive lockout on my 1949 Packard does not disengage as it should when the accelerator is released. In order to disengage the lockout cable, I have to stop the car, shift to low gear and then slowly creep forward while pulling on the o/d knob. The cable will then disengage the o/d. This can be a problem because the transmission will not shift into reverse unless the o/d is locked out. O/D functions well otherwise, cable, governor awitch, lockout switch, kick down switch are all new. Only problem is disengaging. The O/D is the R-11 unit. Any suggestions as to possible cause and how to correct it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Charles:

If you go to www.packardinfo.com you can down-load the Packard Service Training Manual for Transmission and Overdrive. In the back of the book there is a trouble-shooting guide that covers problems with disengaging and lock out failure, it may help you out.

Sincerely, John
