CRCAIN Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 The overdrive lockout on my 1949 Packard does not disengage as it should when the accelerator is released. In order to disengage the lockout cable, I have to stop the car, shift to low gear and then slowly creep forward while pulling on the o/d knob. The cable will then disengage the o/d. This can be a problem because the transmission will not shift into reverse unless the o/d is locked out. O/D functions well otherwise, cable, governor awitch, lockout switch, kick down switch are all new. Only problem is disengaging. The O/D is the R-11 unit. Any suggestions as to possible cause and how to correct it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.Charlie CainTexas <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Guest Snopack Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Charles:If you go to www.packardinfo.com you can down-load the Packard Service Training Manual for Transmission and Overdrive. In the back of the book there is a trouble-shooting guide that covers problems with disengaging and lock out failure, it may help you out.Sincerely, John
