Guest Durahansolo Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Alright I have a 1989 reatta with the 134a retrofit on the air conditioner. When i first got the car in 2003 it had the standard R12 and it worked pretty good. My dad decided to have it switched over to 134a and ever since then it has not worked. I get the message about very low coolant and the system is disengaging.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Sounds like your refrigerant leaked out. Were all the seals replaced when it was converted? If you had a leak with R12, its going to be worse with R134a
Guest tomt Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 I'm not dissapointed with my switch over, but have to add refrigerant every year, which my mechanic said I would have to to. The spring and fall, seem to bring up incorrect low refrigerant warnings. I add in the Spring, and have no problems till next year, so I'm satisfied.

I got it refilled last summer and it worked great for about a day and a half and then it just died and blows out air but it is not cold lol. I'm not sure which seals were actually replaced because my dad had it installed and I didn't see the port until yesterday when we tried to refill it.
