Phyllisjane Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 I have a '64 Wildcat convertible with bucket seats and console which includes a factory tach that is inoperative. The shop manual does not show this tach installation at all. So far I have found that the wires enter the transmission tunnel, but cannot find any information concerning color coding or destination of the tach wires. I wonder if anyone out there can shed any light on this. Thanks.
palbuick Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Refer to your shop manual, there should be a sction about the console and the tach. Also the wiring diagrams should show the tach wiring, If your car originallly came with a tach, there should be two wires for the tach, originally wired into the harness, one is white for the light and the other is or should be brown. Check the dist. area for a brown wire.Jim Schilf palbuick
Mr Riviera Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 The Brown wire (wire to the tach. ) in question should go to the Neg. side of the coil. Check and see if you have 12 volts to the other wire in the console when you turn your lights on.This should go to the light in the tach.
