I believe you'll need to be looking at "75" aspect ratio tires rather than "70", just my gut suspicion as tire width (and how it interacts with front wheel well/fender and rear quarter panel/wheelhouse plus suspension clearance on the inner side of the tires) can be more important than just the tire's diameter.

You might check the Coker Tire's website and see what their equivalent sizing comes up to. In a little later year model, there was an 8.20x15 tire that might be in some charts that your specified tire might not be in. In some cases with radials, going one size larger can tend to compensate for the sidewall flex--end result is that the car sits at the same ride height as it did with the prior bias ply tires (which did not have sidewall flex unless the tire was underinflated).

ALSO be aware of the wheel construction issue and how it CAN relate to the successful long-term use of radial tires on a wheel not specifically designed or rated for them.

Just some thoughts,

235-75R x15's are going to be your best size for that. Never had problems with wheel well or ball joint clearance (unless one uses 7 inch wide Roadmaster wheels on a Special or Super) They are not as tall as the old 820 x 15s but are wider.

Never had problems running radials on the original rims. If I did, I'd never use them as I've very fussy about using the correct rims or similar ones (subbing 15s for 16s etc)
