Rattpac Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Getting ready to do a restoration on my 53 steering wheel and have a question on the chrome finger rests. What would be the proper way to remove them and then put them back on after the wheel is done?
Guest Albert Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 They are on two pins and pull off, i will take a pic later today and edit this post to show the direction. here is the pic of the wheel - the fingergrips. hope this helps
Rattpac Posted May 16, 2006 Author Posted May 16, 2006 Thanks Albert, really helps! I figured they were attached someway and probably not "Glued On" like todays contraptions that they mistakenly call "Cars". Looks like I have to pull them towards the driver to get them out? will I need any tools that you can think of?
Guest Albert Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 NO, DO NOT not pull toward the driver, they pull up toward the outer rim of the steering wheel. the grips are almost u shaped with two pins on each, you may try spraying with some WD-40. They are held by the same type of arangement as the name bages on the sides of the cars.
Rattpac Posted May 16, 2006 Author Posted May 16, 2006 See, tis better to ask then to replace! Ok will try that direction, "Badges? we don't need no Stinkin Badges" <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Never have removed mine but that will be on the list as she gets prepped for her 53 year old face lift.
