Guest imported_Pertti K Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I'd need at least one rocker arm and one push rod for my 1949 303. If you have them or if you know who could help me, please let me know! Push rods are sold at least by Fusick and USA Parts Supply, but they don't have rocker arms. Thanks, Perttiemail: pertti.k.heikkila ( a ) kolumbus.fi (or reply here).
Guest rocket49 Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I can more than likely come up with what you need, call me 248-778-7129
RocketDude Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I guess I should have saved the ones I just threw away! I replaced the whole set, and there were a few good ones left. I asked questions of a lot of people, as to why no one sells 49-51 rockers, but the shafts are the same numbers. Doesn't make any sense. What could the difference be? I asked Fusick, and Egge Machine, who sell rockers and such. No one could answer the question. I finally found a guy who had built a lot of these engines, and he cleared it right up. The early rockers were 1.5 to 1 ratio. Late 51 and later were 1.8 to 1 ratio. so if you use later ones, use the whole set, do not mix them!!!! All the valve train components are identical, except fot that difference. Cam, rocker shafts, everything! Olds changed their cam timing by changing the ratio of the rockers. the later ones are more efficient, so no one makes the early ones any more. Why the people that sell them don't know that simple fact is beyond me. So, I purchased a full set of later ones for my '51 from Egge Machine, and they work like a charm! The only difference in the pushrods is the diameter. My old rocker shafts and pushrods were perfect, so I used them. The results were great. I still have a new set of pushrods on the shelf. Didn't use them, once I learned it wasn't necessary to change them. Soooo, get a whole set of matching rockers and breath easy..... Just don't mix the ratios..!
Guest imported_Pertti K Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Thank you for your replies, RocketDude's piece of info may prove to be valuable someday. Anyway, I managed to buy a used 1949 303 Rocket plus Hydramatic for the price of set of new -52 rockers and push rods. This spare engine has good rockers and lots of other stuff that I might need someday...
