The fact that you have an 89 with the CRT makes things a little simpler. First I would connect the fittings with a can of 134a ready to dispense in the drier. Make very sure you are connected to the correct port. Then start the engine. You must enter the diag. screen on your CRT. This is done by pressing the climate button. Once that screen is displayed, press the OFF and Warm button at the same time. The diag. screen is then displayed. A group of codes will be displayed. ECM, then BCM, and lastly CRT. Once all the codes are displayed, the screen will then say ECM. Press the NO button. Then it will say BCM. Press YES. Then with each question answer no, till you are asked Clear Codes. Press Yes. This should clear the A/C code and the clutch should engage long enough to take on some 134a. To leave the CRT diag screen, just press END. The BCM will shut the compressor down only when the pressure is very low. Other wise, only a warning will display if the pressure is somewhat low. I would leak check your system if the pressure is so low that the BCM has cut off your compressor clutch. Hopes this helps
