...or why we hate the new ones!!!!

8196Caprice_1-med.jpg

The picture above is of our 1989 Caprice, one of two we own(can't have too many). The Chevy has about 76,000 miles and has a two year old paint job, nothing special but pretty, I guess.

Gloria and I were riding around a small town, Tappahannock, Va(An Indian name)yesterday evening and drove into a recent development. We saw a lady in her yard and struck up a conversation about her town. Just before we left her, she said, "Hey, that's a pretty car!"

It's a Caprice, for crying out loud!!!

Gloria and I realized that most new cars have so little sex/color appeal that most everyone is thinking about the good times they "used" to have in cars of "color" before the new BOZOS took over the paint department. Amazing, an '89 Caprice.

On another note, I was in Richmond a few weeks ago putting a new tail pipe on this same car and the muffler shop guy tried his best to get me to sell it to him. He said the new rage is these old Caprices with lowered suspension/air bags and 20 inch rims, RAPPER RODS, for lack of a better name.

They'll certainly RAP your hearing when the BASS Systems are kicked in.

Wayne, definately not a rapper, but "rocker".

you have a nice car there.they are getting hard to get them in nice shape.they will be future collectable cars. people like me use them for demolition derbies.[very strong cars ].plus they were picked up for taxi cabs.its nice to see them with all the glass and the doors not chained shut. grin.gif

Oh, the pain of it all. Mike finally (took three tries) got his learners permit two weeks ago. His mother and I decided he'll be driving one of our "tanks" for his own protection and the detriment of others.

I think it'll be the blue Caprice, the paint already has a scratch from my daughter trying to mash my '35 Ford into the ground.

Thankfully, she has left to follow her "star" and now drives a beater that a scratch wouldn't even be noticed on. You know, a blue car with white front fenders and one white door!??????

RW--up here in Deeeetroit, those Caprices are a hot commodity. Those, and old 2 dr. Cutlasses, and Buick Regals. put some 20's on her. (Nothing like putting $4800 worth of rims and tires on a $2000 car.........but hey, we have people parking a $55,000 Escalade in the driveway of a $45,000 house.

I've heard rumors that some people's houses are worth more than their collector cars, but I didn't realize that some people spent more on their daily drivers than their house... oh wait, I do remember driving through the north Georgia backwoods and seeing clapped out trailer houses with brand new Camaros and Firebirds parked in the dirt out front.

Now that you mention it Vertigo, my wife has sure had me busy planting flowers and bushes for the last couple of weeks. You think she's trying to hide our "clapped out" house from our neighbors?

"Dizz", He'd never get it started. This car has its own idea of when and how to start her. Unlike the old days, you don't just "pat the gas pedal three times", and she starts right up.

very nice caprice. i also have one. its a 1975 caprice classic convertible with 42,000 original miles. i never liked caprices much till i found mine. now i love em. my motherinlaw had a 74 caprice 4 door but the body style wasnt that pretty and it was such a strange blue that it hurt your eyes to look at it. they sure dont make cars the way they used to. some of the caprices ive seen look like theve been on pimp your ride. yuckkkkkkkk! especially the 73-75 convertibles. it makes you want to cry.
