jonlabree Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 If a later model (1991) Fuel injection unit will not fit the 1990 heads. Why will a later model Supercharger fit the earlier heads???
Guest Greg Ross Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 I would have understood from Hals' reply to your "2 Cents worth on Super Charging" thread that the Series I ('91-'95) intake manifold will in fact bolt up to the 3.8L heads. He's pointing out that there are other subtle differences like the PVC channels differing which he believes can be easily overcome. You credited me with a statement I never made concerning "91 parts not fitting the earlier/ 3.8L engine. My S/C is built up on a, based on the GM Part Number, an '93-'95 Series I 3800 Crate Engine. From that I went through two iterations starting with the plastic runners Snakes manifold Padget refers to combined with the manual Tranny-didn't want too many variables to deal with at one time. And then six months later went to the S/C Add-On. I've suggested numerous times comparing Head Gaskets and Intake Manifold Gaskets from the two generations and apparently this has now at least been partially done.As F-14 has discovered this is not just a simple matter of bolting on a few used parts on to an aging 3.8L and instantly making 250 hp. I think Philip is determined to get this thing going, and as long as the Knock issue is managed he'll definitely have unleashed some new HP.On the road to reliable power enhancement Philip is just getting started here.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 It's not exactly a matter of fitting the injectors onto the heads...the intake manifold is between them. My careful examinations and side by side comparison photos show that there are no real differences, and that the L67 intake manifold should bolt up and work properly to the LN3 heads. Then, S/C and injectors sit on top of that. The L67 manifold is really the adapter. Remember though, in what I'm saying, I'm around 95% sure of this working. Something may have been overlooked and this project may end up not working in the end. However, do have a little faith in my measurments, photos, etc. This approach has never been documented to have being done before. It's not the best approach, and maybe that's why it hasn't been done, but it's different and may be better in some situations. This is a grand experiment. I (/we) may fail. Until then...I'm planning for Initial Startup 2.0 on Tuesday
jonlabree Posted April 16, 2006 Author Posted April 16, 2006 I am relying on a person of knowledge that told me a while back that the88,89, & 90 heads are different from the 91's. If you say they are the same, I belive you. I was under the impression that there was some majormismatch and that they would not work. I originally wanted to install later Fuel injection or a Supercharger. I have seen the picturesposted by "F14crazy". They looked like a match at the time. That is why I am questioning the installation, now that he is having sealing problems. I have saved all of his posts hoping that it would work and make it possible for other people interested in the same installations.
