jrbartlett Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 The rain gutter that surrounds the rumble seat deck lid opening is missing on my 29 Packard Super 8 roadster, and I'm going to fabricate something to replace it. Can someone measure their gutter and tell me how deep it is (vertical), and how far it extends out from the body (horizontal), and whether these measurements differ on the front of the seat opening compared to the sides? Also, is the flange on the deck lid that extends down into the gutter a separate piece of metal that is screwed onto the deck? How far does it extend from the deck lid? Photos would be super. Thanks.
Guest imported_Speedster Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 On my 645 the deck skin metal is bent down into the trunk opening 1.5" all the way around. The gutter is bent into sort of a (J) shape and extends another .5" below the skin metal for a total of 2" vertical depth, then out horizontally 1" (bottom of gutter), back Up 7/8" (inside wall of gutter), then in toward outside 1/4" (upper lip that stiffens and protects by not having a sharp edge exposed). The outer wall of the gutter is 1.5", so it extends up 1" behind body skin, between the skin and wood brace, and is held in place by wood-screws. The gutter is the same all the way around, except at the very bottom rear, where it attaches to the front wall of the lower drip pan, where the outer wall of gutter has been trimmed to a tapper. There are also large cast metal pieces that mount in the front corners, under gutter, and have rubber-bump-stops in them. The 3 bends in gutter material appear to be about 3/16" Radius bends.
Guest imported_Speedster Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I will be removing all those parts for cleaning and painting some time soon, If you need detailed Info or pictures at that time? But I'm not ready to start on the body yet. I need to finish the chassis and drive-train first, to make room for body parts.
jrbartlett Posted April 13, 2006 Author Posted April 13, 2006 Many thanks. Does anyone out there know of any suppliers who have reproduced this gutter? Henry Yeska does not have it.
