Heath Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I know it is probably bad form to have your first post be a FS, but my wife's daily driver took a dump yesterday and I need to free up some fundage. I am to my knowledge the third owner of a 1988 Black Coupe. Supposedly the original owner was from Florida. I purchased the car about 7 years ago in Mid-Michigan. The mileage on the ODO is under 40,000k and she is perfect. She has been sitting in the garage in Northwest Ohio basically un-used for the last couple of years and has not seen the snow since I have been the owner. There are a couple of stone chips on the hood, but otherwise not a scratch on her. Like I said, I really really do not want her to go, but I thought I would at least test waters and see if there is any interest. I know how rare the car is and I doubt if I will ever find this low milage again, so I am going to set the sell price at $ 17,500.
Vincent Vega Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Sorry you have to let it go. Any pics? Options? 16-way seat? Suede inserts? Last few digits of VIN? Owners manual and other documents? 17,500 is pretty steep even for a low mileage 88.
matthewlawe Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 "took a dump".....what does that mean?"fundage"...dah, no such word.
Guest MauiWowee Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Oh c'mon Matthew....the car went belly-up and he needs some scratch.
Heath Posted April 14, 2006 Author Posted April 14, 2006 First off let me thank you for your response. This was kind of a spur of the moment decision yesterday. So yeah, the price is probably too steep. I do not agree with the person who thinks 10k too much, but I REALLY like the car (I sold my 86 T-type about 4 years ago and the Reatta is my only remaining toy, plus I wanted to weed out anyone who is not serious. I know in the world of the net no pics means it does not exist. When I went outside last night to fire her up to take some digitals my good luck continues, she has a dead battery. So I will have to work on that this weekend when I get a chance. I tried scanning some old photos I have and they just do not do any justice with the scanner I have available to me. To answer your other questions the exact milage as of right now is 38,546. No X on the build sheet, so no on the 16 way seats, they are just plain gray leather but in great shape. Go ahead and look in up, the numbers you are looking for are 4185 off the VIN. Any one that is interested truely will not be disappointed.Sorry, should have added yes on the manual in the black leather case, but the pen was missing when I purchased it. Also is still wearing all four original hubcap covers and the original embroidered floor mats. Let me know what else I can tell you. Thank you.
Vincent Vega Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Good info Heath. Given that VIN, the steering wheel insert must be the starburst insert instead of the plain "R". The War Dept says no more toys for me. Good luck on a buyer. The mileage is a major plus.
Shelby Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Based on the amount of information provided you are still $10,000 high. Please convince us otherwise.
Guest Reatta1 Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Have to concur with Shelby. You'll be looking a long time for a buyer at that asking price. Check back posts on this forum and you'll find 88's do not sell for anywhere near what you are asking. Even low milers like yours. I'd say 7 grand is even pushing it. Good luck. Some pics and a bit more info as to any problems you have addressed would be helpfull. Any problem with CRT and IPC functionality is one of the more useful items of information. Any ABS problems would be another high value consideration.
Guest BJM Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Pricing comes down to how fast do you want to sell it. $10,000 may be but you will wait a lot longer to find that small group of buyers. $8,000 seems right to me - I am no Reatta expert but I do track collector car pricing. Try ebay, with a good cross section of photos, I have seen Reattas do pretty well there lately. Then, as the last day comes, you can decide whether to stick it out or end the auction for lack of interest. If you run a reserve auction with the reserve at $10,000 then you may not get serious bidders.
Heath Posted April 17, 2006 Author Posted April 17, 2006 I appreciate all of the responses. This is about where I thought I would be. I admitt to starting the price to high. The problem is the car is one of those "dream" cars for me. For what it is worth, I have never (knock on wood)had any issues, no ABS and until this weekend (low A/C Coolant) I have never had an error code. It makes absolutely no sense for me to sell a great car for $8,000 - $10,000 with only 38k and turn around to buy my wife a car for more money with the same or more milage. The soloution for me is fairly easy, just emotionally unsettling, the Reatta will become her daily driver to and from work. If someone wants to make a serious offer for this low mile car they can shoot me a private e-mail and I will send back some pics. Otherwise I am just going to keep it and treat it like car instead of a collectable. Thank you again for your courteous responses. I really appreciate the help and advice.

You can admire someone else's "collector" for free.
Guest BJM Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 With the mileage where you are at, and Barney, Jim or others may want to 2nd this or correct me - but I think you have some wiggle room to drive it - enjoy it for another 25,000 to 40,000 and not lose much if any real value. Is not a well maintained 75,000 mile Reatta worth pretty near what a 40,000 mile Reatta is? Maybe a slight depreciation but not much...
