enonwosdog Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 O.K., I know this is a retarded question for all of you reatta buffs, but I had an 89, and had no problem changing the headlight bulb. With my 88, I really don't have a clue. I even have the shop manual, and I didn't find instructions, unless I just didn't look hard enough. If I turn on my brights, my headlights go out completely, so I thought that maybe just the bright portion of the bulbs was out. Just looking at the sucker, without trying to force anything, I don't see how the bulb comes out. I told you it was a retarded question, but I really would like an answer from someone.
Rawja Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 To get the headlight out, first raise them using the lamp retract button. On the sides of the headlight doors there are I think 4 Torx screws that hold the black plastic trim on; remove them. The headlight itself is held in by 4 screws through the stainless steel trin ring; remove them. The headlight should now pull out (or fall out). The diagnostic chart for high beams not operating says to check the following:Open in circuit 840 to high beam relayOpen or short to ground on circuit 460Open or short to ground on circuit 11Open on circuit 691Open or short to ground on circuit 307 or 803Bad dimmer switchBad hi beam relay Online Service Manual
Shelby Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Although the screws are stainless steel they get rusted in. Spray some WD-40 or knocker loose on the threads before you try to remove them. Other wise you will strip the heads out. Voice of experience speaking.
Guest joereatta Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Suspect not bulbs if both go out when you turn on high beams. Would be highly coinsidental for both to blow at same time. Would suggest you look elsewhere. Switch?
Guest Durahansolo Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I'm glad someone posted on this, i bought these Pilot Angel Eyes And i needed to know how to get the old lamps out to put these in.
Barney Eaton Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 When you get to the bulbs, test them before replacing. You could have a broken wire at the connector. If the wire breaks on the drivers side, both lights will go out.It has been posted before but often the wires going to the headlight get routed incorrectly. (go to www.reatta.net and look at the picture under headlight repair) the wire should come from the fender side of the car, over the bracket and make a 90 degree turn to plug into the back of the bulb.
