Thanks to Kim Miller at the AACA Library for finding original news stories and factory literature, with which I was able to straighten out errors found in current research books. If you're looking for first-hand information, the library can't be beat.

West, You are so correct about the AACA Library. Our members have a treasure with our AACA Research Library. Many authors of books, not just automotive authors use it. I wish even more of our membership would visit when in Hershey and use it for their inquiries. It is so accessible: phone, mail, on-line. If anyone has not looked at the Library website for AACA, take a look and scroll through all of the areas.

This is the 25th year celebration of the AACA Library. There are pins for sale ($5.00) to show support along with an opportunity for anyone to give a "gift" to the Library to say "Happy Birthday."

An interesting sidenote to the Wayne story. Jack Dunning, the owner, told me to take a photo of the transaxle. When Wayne Burgess saw the photo in the magazine, he noticed something wrong/missing with the U-joint. I talked with Dunning, and he saw it too!!!.... and said it would be in the shop before the day was out.

It takes a trucker to notice stuff like that.....

"What's that vibration Bob?" <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

"Oh, that's nothing, the old truck vibrates all the time!"

"Where'd that wheel come from that just passed us BOB?" <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

????????????????????? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Good catch on the Wayne, Wayne! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Several years ago I was driving a 1911 Olds Limited on Disney's track and was doing over 60 MPH. The next day I was to chauffeur the head of Disney's studios in the same car to start the race. After finishing our laps on the track I pulled up the aluminum floor board for some reason and guess what, half the universal joint was lying in the belly pan. Headed to the shop and rebuilt it before the next day...I could just see launching the Disney guy over the windshield on race day on national TV! The photo brought back this "interesting" memory!

Wife's uncle had a scrap cardboard business. It was common for him to severly oveload the 7500 series truck. One day he was on I-94 in downtown Detroit and pulled off the exit near his shop. As he got to the top of the ramp he noticed a tire shoot past him. He felt the truck pull to the right as he stopped. The tire passed through the intersection and came to rest across the street. Uncle stopped to pick it up (after-all, he was a scrap dealer) and went back to the truck to throw it in when he noticed it was his tire that was missing.

He claims he drove it six blocks to his shop and the front drum never touched the ground. shocked.gif
