'90 Reatta - probable trouble areas

I am looking at a '90 Reatta at a local donation lot. The car has 144,000 miles and the exterior is in moderate shape. the interior is very nice blue leather. No one knows any history of this car. Are there particular trouble areas I should investigate closely? The price is very right.

Oh yes, it has the factory sunroof. This will need a repaint. Is removal obvious?

Windshield and brakes. They can cost you more than the car.

144,000 on a 3800 V6 is nothing...don't worry about the engine and transmission unless they have been abused.

Teves ABS can be VERY expensive if you go to the wrong place for service and parts. Otherwise it is just expensive. The black ball on top of the unit is the accumulator and it deteriorates with age and cost around $100+

It uses hydraulic pressure for boost as opposed to most vehicles using vacumn.

The hydraulic fluid is the brake fluid and it needs to be clean...flush the system as soon as possible to get fresh clean brake fluid in the system.

There are other minor items that are unique to the Reatta but no real serious

problems.

The Reatta uses many of the same mechanical and electrical parts and similar year Rivieras so those parts are available new, at auto parts houses, and wrecking yards.

Really depends on the condition of the car. Chances are the things you need to change will be the brake accumulator, vacuum lines, O2 sensor, maybe the plugs, air filter, wires. Did you drive it? How did it go? When I got mine, it was avg around 18 mpg, it's now up around 25 and is running well, and I haven't changed much more than that. But if you're willing to put in the time and a little bit of money, they're awesome cars to own.

No, I haven't been able to drive the car. The battery was dead. I am going back with jumper cables. It is a little unusal, the car is in a boneyard and they have no idea of condition, or why it is there. The price is an unbelievable $140.00 per ton, plus $100.00. So it maintains my interest, as well as my suspicions. The exterior is somewhat weathered, so I expect it lived outside. The interior is blue leather, in remarkably good condition.
