redrea Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 is there a small clip that aligns and holds the crank sensor in place. both i and my mechanic friend could swear that there was something there to keep the crank sensor from moving around.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Yes. It's a metal bracket that holds the CPS in place. New sensors should come with them
Machiner 55 Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Izza hall I no 'bout dis. [color:\\"red\\"]See Attached.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Image attached of my CPS bracket. I did cut a little bit out of it to replace it without having to remove the harmonic balancer (as shown).
Guest Greg Ross Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 What Crank Sensor are you using with the S/C Philip? There's a difference between the 3.8L and the Series I Engine. 3.8L up to and including '90 used a Crank Sensor that, according to the FSM (and my memory) called for a special tool for alignment. The tool had fins, like the inside of the Harmonic balancer to ensure there was no clash with the Sensor. The Series I was designed to be self aligning on quite a different type fastener.
redrea Posted April 8, 2006 Author Posted April 8, 2006 so it just slides onto the bracket? and f14 i was at the closest gm dealer yesterday and the part they wanted to sell me was just the cps.
harry yarnell Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 You can buy them with and without the bracket. The bracket often will rust to the locator pin, and bust when you try to pry it off.As for alignment, I use a matchbook. It's not rocket science.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I got mine from Advance. They carry GP Sorensen which is marked made in USA, if that helps. They only offered me one with the bracket. You don't need anything to align it. Only have to look and get the spaces even.
redrea Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 so could i run it without a clip. i just don't want the sensor to break while i'm out on the road.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Clip? You mean bracket? You gotta have the bracket
redrea Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 not the bracket thats attached to the block. i don't want the cps to move from side to side
