K8096 Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 On the bottom of page 51 of the latest AACA Magazine, it states the "Discontinued Automobile Award" is for cars which ceased manufacture between 1939 & 1980. Someone explain to me how a 1933 Marmon won the award? The last Marmon was built in 1933 or 1934, which is several years before 1939. Is the award for cars 1929 - 1980?
Steve Moskowitz Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Mistake, just pure and simple. Fairly new award and the 1939 rule was not followed.
K8096 Posted April 5, 2006 Author Posted April 5, 2006 No problem, just keeping you guys on your toes!!! I was hoping I'd have something to pick on West about!
1937hd45 Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 I'm sorry but that is funny! The "Discontinued Automobile Award" Did the winner just get a hand shake and photo since the tray was discontinued?
K8096 Posted April 5, 2006 Author Posted April 5, 2006 Where did they get the year 1939 from? Just curious. Perhaps someone is prejudiced against Pierce Arrow who went out of business in 1938!
R W Burgess Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 I just called West to ask other questions about this month's newsletter, which I got yesterday. He said he was on vacation "studying the history" of our country and "Not to bother him!"Hey West! You know, those cell phones have an "off button". Wayne
Steve Moskowitz Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 The criteria for all of our National Awards are established by the benefactors that endow such awards. Darrell and Jacqueline Davis established this award, purchased the trophy and provided the endowment which our National Awards committee approved. It was gracious of them to fund this unique trophy and award.
West Peterson Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I meant to delete that part of the caption for the "Discontinued Car Award," as it confused me as well. I must have gotten a phone call from Wayne in the middle of my search for that page, and then never got back on task. I find it ironic that Darell, being an expert in Chrysler products, keeps winning National awards for Chevrolets. I guess no one noticed the hemi under the hood of his 1957 Corvette.
R W Burgess Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I guess we need to talk to the head judge about that mistake. Wayne
