Guest imported_NikeAjax Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 My ?56 Century has just recently developed a problem of, when I put it in gear, it takes about 2.5 second to get there. When I do this, I hear a whine and a soft thump when it?s ready to drive. Once the car is warmed up, this doesn?t happen any more. My friend says it?s a problem having to do with a leakage somewhere in the tranny. Is there something I can do myself to fix this, like: pulling the pan and cleaning one of the subatomicdiaflexic-franastans? Would flushing it and putting in a tranny sealer-conditioner. Last time I pulled the pan, about two years ago, it didn?t look too bad; I don?t drive it much, so it shouldn?t be horrible inside. Thanks,Jaybird
KAD36 Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 JaybirdDoes it happen when its cold (been sitting for a while)? If so, its possible the front pump could be loosing its prime after it sits. Mine has a similar ailement if thats any help - I have to put it in Neutral for a few seconds and run the engine at part throttle until I hear the turbine "whine" start up, then I can drop it in gear and it will go. Takes about 5-10 seconds sometimes. I put some Lucas trans conditioner in there - basically a thickening agent - until the rebuild day comes along to minimize the leak down. Band-aide for now.Hope this helps
