Guest jackvtte Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 It is correct that the 89-90 Cadillac ABS Master Cylinder pump assembly is the same PN as a '90 Reatta? Are they interchangable?
Guest F14CRAZY Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Again, don't buy anything, but I believe that's true. They didn't have vacuum powered ABS yet, so to my knowledge, all ABS systems were the Teves Mark whatever. Reattas just came standard with it.
Barney Eaton Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 The basic usit was used on several car within GM and some Ford products as well as Saab and VW. Go to www.reatta.net and do the brake test and you probably need a new accumulator. They run about $100 from places like www.gmpartsdirect.comYou might find one in a wrecking yard that is good enough to last you another year, but the only way to test is to put it on the car.
padgett Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Also optional on Pontiac Bonneville and Oldsmobile Toronado however the shape of the fluid resovoir may be different.
juddev Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 The pontiac 6000 STE was the first "normal" GM passenger car to have abs as an option (teves). The abs system on STE's is only slightly different from the reatta (the pump and motor slides on 2 bolts as opposed to the reatta's 1 bolt mounting) The accumulator looks identical (except for part numbers)to the reatta's
Doug Harness Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Before you buy an ABS Pump from another GM model, make sure you check the height of the accumulator. I bought a rebuilt unit from Prior Manufacturing a couple of years ago for my ?89. The accumulator they shipped on the unit was too tall for the hood to close. I had to switch to the shorter accumulator to complete the repair.
Guest jackvtte Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 The outcome of my experience: I purchased a used '88-'89 Cadillac ABS brake system on E Bay (only $50 + S&H so worth the dice roll) and took it to an A1 mechanic who has worked on this car a few times. I prearranged with him to trouble shoot my problem and use the E Bay system if possible. Day or so later, they exchanged the entire unit - one for one, including the firewall interface. They tested it; I took delivery and it seems to work to spec. He charged $180. Reportedly, the voltages were not to spec and the pump was not working. The red brake light has always been on since I had the car (3 + years); it is still always on. The yellow ABS light is behaving fine. Hence, I wasn't able to test. I have parked the car until I return to Florida in the Fall. Thanks, everyone for all your help and input. 'Tis appreciated.
