Photoduel Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 You can vote on antique cars in a head to head competition. The website computes the rankings based on win percentage. You can find the top 10 cars in your area or nationally. Also, you can submit your pictures for free. http://www.photoduel.com/cars/
Photoduel Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 Guys I made the website and can change the categories. What would you like to see? Please submit some pictures and help me get started. Right now there is only a few, but if you submit it will help!
EdA Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 A bit confusing. How do it work? Do we post our photos and then they are "pitted" against others? Who votes and who decided how they are paired? Looks like fun anyway. Will post photo if I can figure how it works.
manikmekanik Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 I'm in!!Just posted the first few in domestics, and a ?truck!Best of luck in your new venture, looks like fun!!
Photoduel Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 Thanks, appreciate the submission. I approved your pictures. If anyone knows any other good places I could post my link or post it for me, PLEASE let me know. THANKS SO MUCH!
Photoduel Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 does anyone have any feedback on the site?? Please submit pictures.
stexch Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 I submitted all three of my vehicles, and found the results interesting. I'm still unclear about what constitutes a duel. Are these judged by participants? Also, what constitutes an antique? My cars are '62, '63, and '78.
Photoduel Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 I call it a duel because the pictures are in a head to head contest with each other. The system keeps track of its wins and losses. It ranks by the win percentage and must have at least 25 duels under its belt. Anybody can vote on the pictures. Hope that helps. Provide any problems you see with the site and I will try to rectify it.Thanks
Barry Wolk Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 With so few cars listed it would be very easy for one car owner to skew the results by repeatedly voting either for their car or against the car ahead of them in the rankings. One should not be able to vote for their car.
Photoduel Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 I thought about that when creating the site. People will find a way to cheat no matter how I set it up. I figured the best way to handle cheaters was to have the pictures come up random. With enough pictures in the database it would take the cheater a lot of work to vote on his own car. SO I JUST NEED MORE PICTURES TO PREVENT THIS!!! PLEASE SUBMIT THEM! thanks for the feedback and hopefully i can get more pictures in there.www.photoduel.com/cars/
West Peterson Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 From my point of view, I think you've got way too much time on your hands. It's the answer to a question that probably wasn't asked. As the saying goes, the significance of the automobile varies indirectly with the fanaticism of the owner, and the results of your "duel" will probably varify that.

There are similar sites that attempt the same thing. They had to work out the bugs too. I think you should cut the man a little slack. Constructive criticism is in order. Your post was not.
EdA Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Agree with Barry. Can be a fun site. Let it grow and reserve judgement. Not enough antiques on it yet, so let's see how it goes after some time.
Photoduel Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 thanks guys, I am in college and do have a lot of free time. Its nice.
novaman Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 I looked at your site, now that I have gotten the show posters and monthly newsletter out of the way. I did have one problem. I ended up with a duel between the front end and rear end of the same car! That would create a loss and a win for the same car. Guess I need a quarter to determine which end gets the vote. Matt, I helped you along with your Rambler!
Photoduel Posted April 1, 2006 Author Posted April 1, 2006 Eventually when i have more pictures, I only want one picture per car to prevent this from happening.
Wowabunga Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 >>It's the answer to a question that probably wasn't asked.<<Seems like if I wanted a small piece of candy I could just buy a pack of sweet tarts.... or in contrast I could buy a PEZ Despensor, complete with bunny head and really have a swell time handing out little sugar treets to friends.I like fun stuff... best wishes. As to where to get this listed.... humm not sure.... try www.about.com maybe.
Photoduel Posted April 2, 2006 Author Posted April 2, 2006 does any body know of any other good websites for me to post on to get pictures in my other categories: Trucks, Imports, Domesticsthanks
Photoduel Posted April 13, 2006 Author Posted April 13, 2006 I have changed the site around and have made it easier to navigate. Hope you guys like it! Let me know if you find any bugs.
Barry Wolk Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 You still need to go back to the drawing board. The picture below is one of the cars that is top rated. While it may be a fine example of an original MG it is pretty obvious that you can't get an accurate assessment of a cars popularity if you allow one to vote for their own car repeatedly.I'm not saying that that's what happened here.
Photoduel Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 I have gone back and made it so each voter only has 50 votes that count per day. This should hopefully eliminate cheaters! Let me know what yall think. Thanks
