JohnD1956 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I started the refurbishment of my interior on the GS today, and immediately came across three build sheets stuck in the underside of the seats. The best one is attached and it seems to be really odd in that the date ( 2nd box from the top left corner) seems to relate to May 1968, while the car is a 69. Also the job sequence number ( the hand written one in the top left corner) seems to indicate it is vehicel 6950. Can that possibly mean this is the 50th car down the line? Does anyone have experience reading these things and can you provide some insight? Thank youJD
Smartin Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I asked this question for another car on v8buick a while back...here is the thread:http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=65800708802 I believe is the number you're looking for, with the date code. That is on the far right side.Schedule: 708Date: 8-02-1968 (assuming this is from your 69)Or it could be 1969 build date, going from the last 6 digits in the VIN. Seems like it should be a late build. I didn't think they went that late into the year with the 69 models.
JohnD1956 Posted March 27, 2006 Author Posted March 27, 2006 Thanks Smartin. That makes more sense than what I came up with on my own.JD
caGSxlr8 Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Gotta love those Willmington built cars.... I found two perfect build sheets for my Willmington built '68 GS, one in the passenger side bucket seat back and the other in the rear seat springs....My hats off to the guys/gals that worked at that plant for keeping the sheets with the cars....In box 2 of my build sheet I have "0005". The build date of my car is 04C so it does not relate to the 0005 number. That same number appears on my cowl tag about 1/4 inch after the build date. I read somewhere that this number is just a fisher body sequence number but I have no proof that it is correct information... I don't even know what a "fisher body sequence" number is... I think the date you may want to check is in box 10. yours shows 05 05-06, the first 05 is a schedule number and the 05-06 stands for May 6, 1969.
JohnD1956 Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 Thanks for the post caGS. That makes more sense too. In my case, the first build sheet was attached to the seat bottom of the front seat, by mashing a few hog rings through the paper. The bottom of the rear seat the sheet is still in there because somehow the sheet is intertwined with the seat springs, and it is starting to tear, so I left it alone. The one I posted came from the rear seat top.
caGSxlr8 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 John,When I had to edit my post it left my name off of my post. Hope the info helped..
JohnD1956 Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 Absolutely. It was a big help. Thanks Mike
