churchman Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I need to replace or adjust the TCC brake switch on my 1990. I'm almost sure that's what it is because it wouldn't go into overdrive unless I pulled back on the brake pedal. That worked for a while, but now that won't do it. My question is where is this switch? I found the brake light switch and thought that was it, (it was loose). Is it higher up under the dash? I hope not. I can't stand on my head and work on a car like I used to. Anyone changed or adjusted this before? (I could not find any info on this in my repair manual.)Thanks!
Guest DAVESWF Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I had the same problem about 2 months ago. I just had to adjust the switch to solve the problem.See section 9B-2 of the manual (cruise control), which has a pretty good illustration. I had a hard time finding it in the manual also, and it wasn't easy for this old guy to get up in there. I believe the top one was the one I adjusted.
manikmekanik Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I bet Travelocity's garden gnome would fit! He's just not too good with electrical work.Jobs like this sometimes make me wish I had a "garage monkey" around the shop.
churchman Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 Thanks DAVESWF for the heads up on the maunual page. It appears that the brake light, cruise control and TCC are all on the same switch. Funny thing is, the brake lights and cruise work but the TCC doesn't. I even pulled the switch out and pushed the button while driving and still no TCC. Maybe it's just that part of the switch. I'll check the parts houses, (Advance, ZONE or O'Reilly's) and see about a new switch. (Not too hard to get to thanks to the tilt steering wheel!)
jonlabree Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Have you checked the vacum lines at the tank and the servo?
padgett Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 TCC is electric. On 88-89 is a diamond in the service display when active, not sure how to see on 90. Never worked on my Fiero. Coolant must be over 146F to engage. Couple of problems will disengage.
