padgett my Garmin nRoute GPS wants me to take the Florida TPK from Miami through Orlando and joining back to I95 at Datona? I95 looks shorter is I95 in good condition or will the TPK be much faster. I will be travelling on a Thursday. Would you take the TPK or I95?

I think that Garmin has it wrong and I should take I95 confused.gif

I'd take the Turnpike. The speeds travelled on the Turnpike are much higher than on 95 and in my (limited) experience speed enforcement is notably lax on the 'pike.

When in doubt I always take the shortest route which should be straight up I-95. My mapper shows that to be 30 miles shorter and I-4 can be a bear at certain times. Maybe the mapper is picking up that western sweep of I-95 around Stuart. I have often wondered if the only reason for that is to make the turnpike 6 miles shorter from Ft. Pierce to Miami.

OTOH maybe it is trying to get more people to take the turnpike and increase our revenues.

Thanks both of you for the information.

I guess that I will try I95 as it parallels the TPK and if slow and gridlock just cut over. I'll wave to you as I zip past Orlando, Robert

Other factor is that the Sunshine State Parkway (aka Florida's Turnpike) dates to the late '50s and is four lane. I-95 OTOH is much newer and generally six lane as well as being 30 miles shorter from Ft. Pierce to Daytona.

Of course a lot depends on what time you hit what road but there are good reasons why they are building a loop road (toll) around Orlando, much of the day I-4 from where the turnpike crosses to a bit north of Sanford is often 5-20 mph. I just avoid it during weekdays if possible.

or do like my dad does and drive through those blasted toll things where you throw the coins. Never did get ticketed.

We hate turnpikes. My dad was pissed cuz we were towing our 22'' deckover with triple axles, and even empty, they charged us a sh!tload for it and its axles. I suggested that next time, we remove 4 tires

Myself having to live in Florida ( Tampa, Jacksonville and last Melbourne) and working in Orlando. I would stay off off 95 I think it's one of the most deadliest road in America. We had a least one death a month in Brevard County the time I lived there. But if you are only going to Daytona 95 is the best why
